The Attic Players

Film Festival

1st & 2nd March 2014 at the Attic Theatre

An exciting new event was launched at the Attic Theatre during the first weekend of March in 2014. Gŵyl Ffilm Emlyn Film Festival was a two-day extravaganza of talent, featuring screenings of a diverse selection of films, documentaries and music videos, all created by local film-makers from Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. Included in the programme were films by Lleucu Meinir, Chris Dodd, and Ben Walton, as well as several pieces by talented young film makers from Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn including British Film Institute "Kids for Kids" winner, Hattie Morrison. Music videos by local artists were also featured, including, among others, Rye Milligan, Danielle Lewis, Alex Dingley, The Shaws, star*key and George Higgins.

A highlight of the weekend was the first public screening of the GoldHill Productions feature film "Tunnel Vision", written and directed by Branwen and Suzanne Munn. The supernatural thriller has been made in collaboration with the Attic Players over the past year, many of whom appear in the film. "Tunnel Vision" was shot almost exclusively around the Newcastle Emlyn area during spring and summer 2013, and was in post production for eight months leading up to the Festival weekend.

New HD projection and surround sound equipment was given its first public use in the Theatre, providing an excellent venue for the screenings which were grouped into sessions ranging from forty minutes to an hour and a half.

The Festival was a great success, being well attended by the film-makers themselves (many of whom introduced their own work) and members of the public. The organisers were praised for the quantity and quality of material gathered for the event and the excellent standard of technology utilised to present it. Discussion is already under-way regarding a follow-up Festival next year, and film-making workshops are also being planned in the meantime to encourage aspiring new film-makers to create material during the coming twelve months.

With the projection equipment now installed, the Attic Players are planning to present regular screenings (possibly monthly) of classic films rarely seen on the big screen nowadays on theme nights. CinemAttic will commence later this spring. Keep an eye on our website for more details!
